The study is about the complete redevelopment of the foyer – reception of an existing eight-storey building of the 1960s in the center of Athens, which functions as the main administration building of a well-known vocational training institute. The space in its new form will operate in a dual capacity, on the one hand as a reception area and office information desk, on the other hand as a foyer of the central auditorium of the institute. Our goal is the space in its new form to fulfill the modern educational profile of the institute.

The design of the space is total and highly complex, as the development of the amphitheater with its inelastic geometrical characteristics and its limited visual permeability, considerably restricts any flexible design experiments. The new design of the space is also projected accordingly to the building’s appearance at the street level. Mobile equipment also has been the subject of this study.

However, in spite of the conditional restrictions, the pattern follows abstract free lines outside a strict grid, guiding at the beginning, with visual transitions between full – blank, black – white, transparency – opacity in the use of materials and colors.

The time frame for the execution of the project has been extremely limited in addition to the fact that during the reconstruction the function of the rest of the building.
